EMPTY NEST/EMPTY NESTER
China's economy is experiencing rapid growth across various industries. Due to the unbalanced development between China’s rural and urban areas, millions of young rural residents are pouring into big cities in search of employment, which results in a huge number of senior rural residents remaining in their empty houses with extreme loneliness in their later years. Inspired by this phenomenon, I created this series of works.
Every Chinese Spring Festival, thousands of Chinese rural migrant workers will take train to go home, which is almost the only chance for them to visit their parents in a whole year. The train connects their heart to their family back home, also carries their hope for better lives and finding their fortunes in the big cities.
